Sea of Thieves Tall Tales Order Guide
A current-aware guide to story arcs, starting points and checkpoint-aware progress.
Choosing a Tall Tales starting point
Tall Tales are story-driven content. The Shores of Gold arc is presented as interconnected tales, and official release notes document checkpoints and map markers.
Choose an arc from the current story surface and use checkpoints when resuming. This guide avoids one universal order, fixed tale counts and stale reward details.

What order means here
Order can mean the narrative sequence inside one arc, the first tale a player chooses, or the point at which a player resumes from a checkpoint. These are different questions, and the game does not require one universal order for every Tall Tale.
Shores of Gold starting point
The official Shores of Gold page directs players to the Mysterious Stranger in any tavern and presents the arc as interconnected tales. Start from that story surface, then confirm the current Quest Table before beginning.
Shores of Gold sequence
For this arc, use the following bounded sequence:
- The Shroudbreaker
- The Cursed Rogue
- The Legendary Storyteller
- Stars of a Thief
- Wild Rose
- The Art of the Trickster
- The Fate of the Morningstar
- Revenge of the Morningstar
- The Shores of Gold
This is arc-specific, not a global order for every Tall Tale.
Checkpoints and map markers
Official release notes describe a Tall Tale Checkpoint tab and ship-map information. Use the current Quest Table to resume a checkpoint:
- Confirm the selected arc and current Tale.
- Check the last known checkpoint before sailing again.
- Verify that the current map-marker and Quest Table labels have not changed after an update.
Session planning and FAQ
For another arc, choose the first currently available tale shown in the current story surface. A checkpoint is a resume tool, not proof of a new global starting order. Progress can be resumed where the current interface exposes it, while exact rewards and commendation requirements need fresh checking.

Using the table without spoilers
The sequence above is useful when a player wants to follow the Shores of Gold narrative, but it should not replace the live Quest Table. Check the tale title, arc context and available checkpoint before sailing. This keeps the guide useful when the interface changes without turning a historical sequence into a promise about every current activity.
Players who want a different story experience can begin with the relevant arc shown in game and return to this page only for the Shores of Gold chain. Journal locations, commendation requirements and reward details are intentionally outside this outline because they need separate current verification.
Tall Tales path
Use the current narrative starting point and arc context before treating an order as a checklist. Shores of Gold is the clearest bounded sequence here: begin from the documented starting context, follow the arc’s chapters and checkpoints, and return to the relevant objective when a session ends. This does not establish one universal order for every Tall Tale or every later adventure.
Separate availability from completion. An activity can be available to start while its story meaning, checkpoint state, or recommended continuation depends on what your crew has already done. Official Adventure and release-note material can support the current arc framing, while community walkthroughs can help locate sequence details without becoming authority for current rewards or mechanics.
Checkpoint-aware order
When resuming, confirm the active Tale, the last known checkpoint, and the next objective shown by the current game. If the crew changes, repeat the checkpoint check instead of assuming the same state is available to everyone. Keep Safer Seas/High Seas, solo/co-op, requirements, and general progression questions on their dedicated guides. Recheck the sequence after a material story, checkpoint, or release-note change.
