Pre-install PC check

Sea of Thieves PC System Requirements: Minimum and Recommended

Use the current Steam requirements as the primary hardware checkpoint, then read the older official support tiers as historical performance guidance rather than a replacement specification.

Older official performance tiers

The official support requirements page contains older performance-target tiers that add context for different PC profiles. It is dated support guidance, not a silent replacement for the current Steam table above, and it does not guarantee a frame rate or smooth performance.

Check before install

  • Confirm the Windows version and CPU/GPU against the current Steam block.
  • Leave room beyond the listed storage figure for updates and operating-system space.
  • Broadband internet is part of the online access model; this is not an offline single-player requirements page.
  • Do not turn the table into an FPS promise: it does not establish guaranteed performance on every system.

Which requirements source applies?

Use the Steam block when you are checking the current PC listing. Its minimum rows state Windows 10 version 18362.0 or higher, the listed i3-4170 or FX-6300 class processor, 8 GB RAM, GTX 660 or Radeon R9 270 graphics, DirectX 11 and 100 GB of available space. Its recommended rows are a separate stronger tier. The 100 GB value is a storage requirement, not a performance estimate.

Do not merge platform sources into one table. If you are checking an Xbox or another platform listing, read that platform’s own current requirements and account terms as a separate source section. A console listing and the Steam PC table may answer different hardware questions. The older official support tiers on this page are historical context and must not silently overwrite the current Steam values.

Pre-install decision block

  • Steam PC: compare Windows 10 version 18362.0 or higher, processor, GPU, DirectX, memory and 100 GB storage with the current Steam listing.
  • Other platform: open the current platform listing and keep its requirements separate from the Steam table.
  • Online access: confirm broadband and account terms for the platform you will use.
  • Performance: treat minimum and recommended rows as compatibility guidance, not an FPS or smoothness guarantee.

Before you rely on the table

  1. Identify the store or platform through which you will install.
  2. Check the operating-system version and 64-bit wording where the applicable listing provides it.
  3. Leave room beyond 100 GB for updates and system overhead.
  4. Recheck the live listing after a requirements or platform-policy update.

This guide focuses on the hardware question. Ship types, solo-versus-co-op and the Sea of Thieves comparison address play fit, not PC compatibility. Once your PC fit is clear, check the Sea of Thieves solo vs co-op guide for session choice, then check the existing Sea of Thieves crossplay guide for the platform and party setup question.
