Sea of Thieves Hourglass PvP Guide

Hourglass of Fate is the on-demand PvP route for crews that want to vote into a battle loop, rather than relying only on unexpected encounters during ordinary High Seas sailing.

Hourglass of Fate and the War Map

Hourglass of Fate is an opt-in PvP route. Rare describes the War Map as the planning and battle-entry surface, so a crew can decide whether to vote before accepting the risk of an Hourglass session.

Before the vote

Confirm crew readiness, read the current eligibility wording, review the activity state and decide whether the group accepts player-conflict risk. Check the current War Map and Hourglass interface before starting.

How it differs

Hourglass is distinct from ordinary High Seas encounters, Emissary Flags, Safer Seas and Guild progression. Matchmaking, rewards, faction details and availability can change; this page makes no queue, reward or season guarantee.

Player fit

Choose this route when deliberate PvP entry is the point of the session. If exploration or lower-conflict sailing is the priority, use the current alternative session options instead.

Do not over-read the queue

A successful vote starts an activity, but it does not promise a particular opponent, session length or reward. The correct pre-vote decision is whether the crew is ready for the current risk model. If the group is not ready, continue with another activity and revisit the War Map later.

Keep the activity choice explicit for the whole crew. Hourglass entry is a deliberate mode decision, not a hidden condition attached to every voyage. Record the current rules shown by the game and treat older Season Eight explanations as dated context.
