Pirate game guide

Best Pirate Games with Naval Combat on PC

This shortlist covers pirate games where sailing and ship-to-ship or naval combat are part of the experience. The formats differ widely, so each entry is labelled by its access model, platform and multiplayer shape.

Selection criteria

  • Official sources document the game’s pirate theme or setting.
  • Official sources document ship-to-ship, naval or sailing combat; fantasy ship combat is labelled as such.
  • PC platform and current access model are stated with a dated source.
  • Solo, co-op, MMO or competitive format is described without implying a specific population.
  • Dynamic claims are reviewed on the date shown in each entry.

Shortlist by player fit

Open-world MMO

World of Sea Battle

Pirate guilds, an online Age-of-Sail MMO, an open-world sandbox and ship combat with PvP/PvE/RvR activity. Best fit for players who want a persistent naval world and are comfortable with a developing game.

Free live-server MMO

Pirates of the Burning Sea

A PC pirate MMO with live-server access described as free, while the Legacy server requires a subscription. Best fit for players who want a long-running online pirate world and can distinguish the server models.

Fantasy pirate MMO

Pirate101

A PC pirate MMO with skyway sailing and a limited free area; membership and Crowns unlock more content. Ship combat is presented in a fantasy format, not as realistic naval simulation.

Free-trial pirate action

Skull and Bones

A PC pirate action game with ship-to-ship combat and a free trial listed by Ubisoft. It belongs here as a comparison point, not as a free-to-play full-game recommendation.

Pirate-and-naval filter

This category has two necessary halves. A title should have a documented pirate or pirate-adventure identity, and it should give naval or ship combat a meaningful role. A pirate setting with only incidental boat travel is not the same fit as a ship-first combat game. Conversely, a realistic naval sandbox may satisfy the combat half while offering less of the light pirate-adventure tone.

Compare the surviving entries by combat emphasis, world format and access. Ask whether combat is real-time, campaign-shaped, persistent-world or session-based. Then check whether the world is solo, crew-led or MMO-oriented and whether current platform or Early Access terms change the commitment. These labels describe player fit, not a universal ranking, and they should not be collapsed into the separate open-world, free-only or MMO-only lists.

Check both halves of the query

Before choosing, verify the official description for the pirate identity and the naval-combat evidence separately. If either half is unclear, label it as uncertain rather than filling the gap with a theme assumption. Read the title-specific guide for requirements and mode details, because this page is a cross-game filter rather than a fixed stat table or offer page.
