Keep the intent separate
For the broad category, compare this page with the open-world sailing games guide. The broader page does not require co-op, while this page does.
This is an unordered shortlist for players who want both sailing or ship activity and a verified co-op format. The games are not ranked and do not offer identical experiences.

“Co-op sailing” can mean different things. In one game, the crew operates a ship together and sailing is the main activity. In another, a boat is a transport layer for survival, crafting or exploration. A campaign may support shared missions while still being structured around individual progress. Check the official description for what co-op covers, then keep sailing, naval combat and land-based systems as separate fit questions.
Online co-op normally keeps account, platform and network requirements relevant, even when a session is private or non-competitive. Solo-friendly online play is not offline access. Current matchmaking, crew limits and cross-platform rules can change, so use the title-specific guide rather than generalizing from another game.
Ask what the group will do: steer a vessel, complete objectives, explore islands, build a base, or prepare for combat. Compare whether progress is shared, individual, or simply experienced together. This page is cross-game discovery; Sea of Thieves solo/co-op, Guilds and crossplay retain their narrower ownership. The useful match is the one whose documented crew loop fits your group, not a universal winner.
